Deborah Stoddart studied at the Welsh College of
Music and Drama before coming to London to train as a music teacher at
London University. For many years, she combined her family commitments and
her career as a teacher with a limited number of singing engagements; now a
full-time singer, she is looking to expand her repertoire and engagements.
Deborah's repertoire ranges from early music,
including Blow and Purcell, Bach, Handel and some Verdi through to Britten,
Poulenc and Knussen. Most recent engagements include the Verdi Requiem for
Midsummer Opera, the Poulenc Gloria for the Eye Bach Choir, Acis and Galatea
for the New Cut Singers in Halesworth, Suffolk, and soprano soloist in the
Vaughan Williams Serenade to Music with the English Chamber Orchestra. She
has sung both Venus and Dido in a double bill of Venus and Adonis (Blow) and
Dido and Aeneas (Purcell) in Suffolk; Handel's Israel In Egypt, in Norwich
Cathedral with James Bowman and Ian Partridge; The Messiah, Petite Messe
Solenelle; and a series of concerts for the Gubbay organisation, including
her debut as a soloist at the Royal Albert Hall in December 2004.
Deborah's operatic experience includes a run
of performances of Cavaleria Rusticana and I Pagliacci and performances of
the Madrigalist in Manon Lescaut with Kentish Opera; she has also sung in
The Marriage of Figaro with Midsummer Opera. Since this, she has worked on
stagecraft with Mary King, and is working on further repertoire with Philip
Thomas.
Recent performances include Judas Maccabaeus Haydn's Nelson Mass, Vaughan
Williams Serenade to Music and Handel's Ode to St Cecilia in St. John's
Smith's Square, C.P.E Bach's Magnificat, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle,
the Verdi Requiem and also 'The Creation' with Andrew Kennedy and Stephen
Varcoe. Deborah has also recently recorded a new work for quartet, The
Rosslyn Motets, for Classic FM in the Rosslyn Chapel, Edinburgh.
Future plans include the Verdi Requiem,
Schumann's Mass in C Minor and Beethoven's 9th Symphony in the Queen
Elizabeth Hall, as well as? the role of Dido in Suffolk, the Mozart Requiem
in St Martin's-in-the-Fields and Spirit of England by Elgar, Strauss' Four
Last Songs and Puccini's Turandot.
