Aviv Quartet

Biography
Formed in Israel in 1997, the Aviv Quartet studied with Irena Svetlova and Chaim Taub, and then, in Europe, with members of Alban Berg Quartet in Cologne and the Daniel Quartet in Rotterdam. In addition, the quartet has taken part in several courses and masterclasses with members of the Amadeus, Emerson and Julliard Quartets, Isaac Stern, Walter Levin, Henry Mayer, Leon Fleisher, Joseph Kalichshtein, and Ivry Gitlis.
The quartet was awarded the Grand Prix and four special prizes at the 3rd International Melbourne Chamber Music Competition (1999, Australia), the Schubert Prize at the Schubert Competition (2003 Graz, Austria), 2nd prize (no1st prize awarded) at the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition (2003,France) and 1st Prize (“Amadeus Prize” ) at the Charles Hennen Competition (1999,Holland). They have also been awarded several national prizes, such as the Israeli Ministry of Culture Prize (2001), the German Ministry of Education Award (1999), and a Prize of the Israeli Lottery Foundation - Ensemble of the Year 2003.
The Aviv Quartet has performed in international venues including Carnegie and Alice Tully Halls, New York , the Kennedy Center and the Library of Congress, Washington, the Sydney Opera House, the Philharmonie, Cologne, the Konzerthaus, Vienna, Wigmore Hall and Royal Festival Hall, London, the Louvre Auditorium, the Theatre du Chatelet and the Theatre de la Ville, Paris, the Tonhalle, Zurich, and the Beethoven House, Bonn. The quartet has also performed in Brazil, China, Australia, Ireland, the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, Croatia, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, Canada, Latvia and Estonia.
Artists with whom they have played in concert include the Belcea, Ebčne and Psophos Quartets and Yefim Bronfman, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Anthony Paye and Martin Fröst.
Between 2004 and 2006 the Aviv Quartet recorded several Shostakovich Quartets for the Israeli label “Dalia Classics.” They have recorded Schulhoff and Hoffmeister quartets for Naxos.
Future engagements include their return to the Wigmore Hall and concerts in Israel, Europe, Canada and the United States.
